In this Reception maths activity, the teacher models how to use balance scales while explicitly teaching key mathematical vocabulary such as heavier, lighter and balance. Through purposeful questioning and high-quality interactions, children develop their mathematical understanding and language.

In this activity, the teacher supports children as they build a house using loose parts from the construction area while explicitly teaching key vocabulary such as strong, material and foundation. By modelling ideas, extending children's thinking and encouraging discussion, the teacher helps children develop their problem-solving, communication and creative thinking.
